Tony Blair has been taking quite a beating lately in the United Kingdom. Despite having just won a third term as prime minister, his party has been dealt a severe blow, resulting in the loss of nearly 100 seats in Parliament. Responsible for this setback is the recent leak of a top-secret U.K. internal government memo, which recorded the minutes of a meeting between British Prime Minister Blair and other key figures in British intelligence and military outfits, and the very embarrassing (…)

13 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
5 commentsIndignation Grows in U.S. Over British Prewar Documents # Critics of Bush call them proof that he and Blair never saw diplomacy as an option with Hussein.
By John Daniszewski, Times Staff Writer
LONDON - Reports in the British press this month based on documents indicating that President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair had conditionally agreed by July 2002 to invade Iraq appear to have blown over quickly in Britain.
But in the United States, where the reports at first received scant (…) -
Bush asked to explain UK war memo- CNN only US media to maintain credibility
12 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
14 commentsWASHINGTON (CNN) — Eighty-nine Democratic members of the U.S. Congress last week sent President George W. Bush a letter asking for explanation of a secret British memo that said "intelligence and facts were being fixed" to support the Iraq war in mid-2002.
The timing of the memo was well before the president brought the issue to Congress for approval.
The Times of London newspaper published the memo — actually minutes of a high-level meeting on Iraq held July 23, 2002 — on May 1. (…) -
Credibility no longer counts
12 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
WASHINGTON - Funny thing about America and Great Britain. I once thought their people cared about the credibility - and accountability of their leaders - especially when it comes to war and peace. But now I note with regret that the voters in both nations have other priorities.
We’re talking about the fact that the leaders of both nations chose to invade Iraq for flimsy reasons that were deliberately drummed up to convince their people that a third-world country was a threat to them. (…) -
THE MEMO is the final straw: Bush and Blair must be prosecuted
9 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
36 commentsTHE MEMO is the final straw.
We’re not talking circumstantial evidence anymore. It is now verified fact that George Bush and Tony Blair agreed to go to war in early 2002, and that they "fixed the facts" to make the case for war. If this isn’t a case for impeachment, then nothing is.
What facts did they fix?
In Britain, Blair’s henchmen fabricated the "fake dossier" (1991 grad student’s thesis) and soon-to-be interim Iraqi PM Ayad Allawi supplied the 45 min claim.
Bush threatened (…) -

3 commentsSuccess in Bethnal Green and Bow and a strong showing in other areas is only the begining of Respect’s political challenge, says Respect MP George Galloway
As the sun came up over Brick Lane on Friday a new dawn had truly broken over the East End of London - and over British politics.
The impact of Respect’s victory in Bethnal Green & Bow and our spectacular results elsewhere will only fully become apparent in the weeks and months to come.
But already we have some of the measure of (…) -
For the attention of Qasim Salimi at Labour Party HQ
7 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentDear Qasim Salimi
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my e-mail. I write to you as a party member of 20 year’s standing. I campaigned, leafleted, door-stepped and generally assisted the Labour party at both local and national elections throughout the 1980s through to the mid-90s (when I left the UK to work overseas).
Having assiduously replied to each campaign e-mail emanating from your team, I was beginning to wonder if anyone really was taking the time to feel the pulse of the (…) -

Voting fraud exposed in Bethnal Green and Bow, UK
5 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
5 commentsGeorge Galloway, the Respect candidate in Bethnal Green and Bow, today called for a police inquiry into ballot fraud and ghost voting which the party has uncovered. He called it "a brazen conspiracy to steal the election".
He also slated Toward Hamlets Council’s electoral office for publishing an electoral roll which he said was "so shot through with errors and anomalies, deliberate or not, as to be almost meaningless". In particular he instanced more than 200 votes registered at an (…) -
Father of slain soldier plots UK “regime change”
5 May 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsSEDGEFIELD, England - Polls say Tony Blair’s Labour Party is on course to win Thursday’s election, but the father of a British soldier killed in Iraq is convinced he can bring about “regime change” in the Prime Minister’s back yard.
Reg Keys, whose son died at the hands of a mob in June 2003, is standing against Blair in his Sedgefield constituency in northeast England, arguing his son had died in an illegal war and that the premier had lied over the reasons for it.
The odds are heavily (…)
