"The American project for democracy or whatever its real purposes were, for oil, economic expansion, Middle East fit for Israel, whatever it may have been, that project is finished. It is hopeless. It cannot succeed. The insurgency in Iraq is so great now that American troops, however enormous their technology, cannot control it."
"Not only do our leaders suffer from this mania of deluding themselves, but the press by their silence or by their complicity, assist in this process of (…)

By Severin Carrell
Nearly 3,000 British troops have been flown back to the UK for hospital treatment after being wounded, injured or falling sick in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has disclosed.
The figure - which dwarfs the death toll of 74 troops and aircrew who have died since the invasion in March 2003 - includes hundreds of soldiers evacuated from Iraq with serious injuries or illnesses, some critical.
The MoD has revealed that by last Wednesday, 2,862 personnel had been evacuated (…) -

1 commentDavid Leigh, David Pallister and Suzanne Goldenberg in Washington
The British arms firm BAE yesterday refused to comment on documents showing mysterious payments linked to UK weapons purchases by General Augusto Pinochet.
Sums of up to $5m (£2.57m) are listed in Gen Pinochet’s bank records obtained by a Senate investigation in Washington.
Some appear to be linked to arms purchases he agreed to make from Royal Ordnance, a BAE subsidiary.
At one point, Gen Pinochet obtained £1m, which (…) -

David T Johnson,
Acting ambassador,
US Embassy, London
Dear Mr Johnson, On November 26, your press counsellor sent a letter to the Guardian taking strong exception to a sentence in my column of the same day. The sentence read: "In Iraq, US forces and their Iraqi surrogates are no longer bothering to conceal attacks on civilian targets and are openly eliminating anyone - doctors, clerics, journalists - (…) -

Court martial confirms Britain given advance warning of Iraq invasion
18 November 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
By Harvey Thompson
A court martial into the killing of a British soldier, held on October 26, heard how United States defence officials passed on plans for war against Iraq to the British Army almost six months before the invasion.
The information emerged during the trial of Lance Corporal Ian Blaymire, who was facing charges for the manslaughter of fellow soldier John Nightingale while serving in Iraq. Both men were reservists with the Territorial Army (TA), deployed as drivers with the (…) -
Denial Of Water To Iraqi Cities
16 November 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
by Daniel O’Huiginn and Alison Klevnas
Introduction
Water supplies to Tall Afar, Samarra and Fallujah have been cut off during US attacks in the past two months, affecting up to 750,000 civilians. This appears to form part of a deliberate US policy of denying water to the residents of cities under attack. If so, it has been adopted without a public debate, and without consulting Coalition partners. It is a serious breach of international humanitarian law, and is deepening Iraqi (…) -

The Afghan government is to request the return of the "Dead Sea Scrolls of Buddhism" from the British Library, amid concerns the priceless manuscripts were looted during civil war in the early nineties.
Afghanistan’s Minister of Culture will formally ask for the 2000-year-old scrolls to be sent from London to the newly restored Kabul Museum in the next few weeks as part of a campaign to bring home stolen treasures from foreign collections.

Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction
12 November 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
In honor of Veterans Day we would like the troops to have a little background on why they are in Iraq instead of home with their families so here is a report from the UK outlining the history of the Iraq WMD that Saddam Hussien posessed, it has not been in the mainstream press in the United States and has been overlooked in the story of why we are fighting a war in Iraq over WMD. This is a meeting in the UK parliament during July of 2004 less than 6 months ago, and the truth will soon be (…)
