HANGING BY A THREAD
By Peter Fredson
February 17, 2006
Yesterday I wrote a blog about the possibility of administration printing presses “counterfeiting” money. What happens when a nation keeps printing paper money without a backing in gold, silver or platinum reserves?
I pointed out that Germany once printed postage stamps which sold for thousands or hundreds of thousands of Deutschmarks, and that people to buy bread would take a wheelbarrow full of paper money to the store.
I (…)

DEATH TO COUNTERFEITERS

Once I owned a small, gray, coarse paper bill, issued in Revolutionary days of the U.S. It was crudely hand-etched and printed on a small hand press. On it were the words: DEATH TO COUNTERFEITERS. Counterfeiters would have had an easy time printing any denomination of bill for the technical skill was minimal. The temptation to print money in those days of poverty and tumult must have been enormous, hence the penalty of Death. (…) -

I just finished my daily review of news and blogs, and paid special attention to the Dick Cheney shotgun blast incident. Actually there is a ton of news, joking, and commentary on this topic, so I will limit my comments to something I saw which may not have been reported. At least I didn’t see any comments.
Yesterday, when eating supper and watching TV, I saw a report on the Cheney shooting. On the screen appeared the (…) -

Credibility, trustworthiness, reliability, integrity, are for most humans words which give us a certain feeling that, whatever the occasion, there is a solid basis underlying the fitness of things. They imply that some care and attention will be given to the daily routine, that human relationships can be rewarding, and that ordinarily we can get though the day after depending on other people.
It is therefore with (…) -

Please, someone enlighten me. For the past 5 years I have been informed by Bush or some cabinet member that this is War time, that we are IN a War, we are AT War, we have a Wartime President, and we are preparing War against Iran and Syria, etc. Bush talks constantly of a War against terrorists.
I’d like to know with what country are we at War? Are we at War with specific countries, with a single person in a country, or with (…) -

The man hitting himself on the head with a hammer was asked why he was doing it. He replied: “Because it feels so good when I stop.” This country is hitting itself on the head but can’t seem to stop.
Yesterday evening I accidentally tuned in to Larry King who was conducting a live TV report. It showed a number of people in an underground garage milling about, some looking bored, others anxious. They had been working in the Senate (…) -

When I heard that the Senate Judiciary Committee was going to “investigate” President Bush’s arrogant claims of being above the law, and signing statements that he could pick and choose which laws he might observe, I worried about the partisanship of the committee. On previous occasions all the Republican Senators tried their best to hamper, trivialize, distract, and obfuscate any attempts to implicate the imperial President (…) -

We are at War. Terror is lurking in every corner to destroy American cities, factories, and people. It is those crazy fanatical Muslims that are to blame. They hate democracy, liberty and Americans.
We don’t know why they hate us so much. Our President is doing his courageous best to cope with this terrible danger for everybody.
Yet he has critics with niggling objections to his determined strategy of fighting Muslims where they live (…) -

Remember when George W. Bush was a promising Governor of Texas? Like many politicians before him he was glib in making a host of promises concerning most of the issues affecting voters. And like many politicians before him he was adept at wriggling out of his promises. He still continues this dual approach: Promise and wriggle out.
He is certainly consistent, still using some of the very same promises he made in those days (…) -

SOTU 2006 REVISITED
By Peter Fredson
February 3, 2006
I have looked at over 100 blogs on the SOTU 2006 of Bush, all varieties. The Right-Wing responses made me rub my eyes in disbelief of the huge gap between their assessment and mine. “Noble solutions”, “Brilliant Recovery”, “Visionary”, “Strong and Determined”, “Regaining Initiative”, and “Great Speech” were some of the adulatory sycophant applause.
"Bush’s Great Leadership Ability made headlines.
I decided to get another look (…)
