SAVING OUR HONOR
By Peter Fredson

It is indeed heartwarming to see the vigilance that Republicans are exercising over our morals, virtue, honor, and fine American character.
Recently a baseball player seemingly lied about taking some sort of performance enhancement drugs. This is abominable, unheard of, something destined to bring disrepute to the entire game, and will shame us on the world-wide stage.
Harsh treatment is certainly called for, to make sure that sports (…)

WORK IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY
By Peter Fredson
March 28, 2006
It is not my intention to weigh in on the current immigration debate in the U.S. other than to say that George Bush has been careless, negligent and inept at dealing with securing our borders. As I looked at the protest demonstrations on TV, in Los Angeles, most of the several thousand protestors looked like they recently came from some Mexican countryside towns.
That jogged my memory. After WWII I had 4 years of G.I. Bill (…) -

The other day I wrote a blog on “Reassessing George W. Bush.” And I received a serious comment from a Bush supporter.
Usually the comments are vituperation, insults, invitations to accept Jesus, fervent declarations of Christian Love, simple denials implying my brain is missing, long dissertations on religious beliefs, inarticulate defense of Bush actions, indignation at my “treasonous” criticism, or assertions that I am helping the (…) -

Ever since George Bush came upon the political scene I have been trying to divine the source, or sources, of his certainty. I realize that he has been anointed by friends, cronies, parents, fundamentalists, corporate executives, neoconservatives, and by the Old Testament God of his faith, and wrapped in cotton batting so that no critic or heretic can harass him.
In his bubble of comfort and security, he can suck his thumb (…) -

I saw a news item an hour ago which gave me great amusement. The headline read:
US wants new Belarus poll The story said: “The United States does not accept results of the Belarus election and believes the campaign that re-elected President Alexander Lukashenko was conducted in a ‘”climate of fear’", the White House said today.’”
What a coincidence. I was thinking exactly the same thing about (…) -

George W. Bush, trying hard to please the American public, seems to have hit upon a brilliant idea to revive the fading polls of his popularity. He has decided to give a speech, perhaps two or three or a dozen. In this way he can try through soporific means, to lull the public and give them a look inside of his fantasy life. It worked well several years ago, and his polls shot up several points.
It is true that he has (…) -

Having learned nothing from history, Bush is determined to repeat the worst of it. He loves to stay a course, especially if the first time it was a failure. Bush will try again and again. That may be laudable for character, but it also reflects stupidity, sheer ignorance and a fondness for fantasy over reality.
It reflects the bubble of isolation in which Bush lives, surrounded by sycophants who are determined to put a positive (…) -

As a result of personal experiences during World War II, comparing them with the state of our nation today, I see numerous similarities between the actions of the Bush neocons and the Brown Shirts of Adolph Hitler. Hitler, Goering, Goebbels, Himmler et al.
What do I see? Hold tight, now.
The SS Troops, the Homeland Security, the fervent and pious preachers with their “Gott Mitt Uns), the claims of racial superiority, the (…) -

Deja Ides of March

Is it that time again? We realize that for George Bush it has never stopped being that time. The neocon cowardly war-hawks, who love aggression, bullying, preemption, blood and thunder (as long as it does not personally touch them), instead of lust for sex, have lust for power, wealth and world dominion. Back in 2000 A.D. the Leo Straussian fans were convinced that preemptive strikes were necessary on Iraq, Iran, Syria and any others (…) -

Years ago, in Central Park, a young woman was jogging when a gang of thugs waylaid her. They beat her, then raped her, and stole whatever she had of value. They felt victorious and gleefully encouraged their companions to rape her again. A truly jolly crew.
They were eventually brought to justice, but meanwhile no jogger felt safe.
There is an analogous situation with the Bush cabinet and Iraq. The Bush thugs waylaid Iraq, beat (…)
