DUMB AS A FENCE POST?
By Peter Fredson
June 28, 2006
Many people have debated the mentality and honesty of George W. Bush. There is a hard-core fundamentalist Christian Republican component that still believes George Bush is a good president, a canny strategist, and a compassionate conservative. But about 70% of Americans feels he is the worst president that has ever disgraced this country. They point out that “staying the course’ is a sure indication of lack of imagination and that (…)

I watch the Bush administration bellow and bluster its incompetence to the world. I watch as the cabinet dances war dances, shouts ominous threats, pronounces rivals to be EVIL and therefore unfit to live with decent Christian Republicans.
I listen to little Condi Rice, the Black Angel of Death; scare the public once more with visions of mushroom clouds, aluminum tubes, yellow cake and other strategic lies. But Donald (…) -

I recently reviewed remarks of George W. Bush and those of his cabinet officials regarding war, terrorism, environment, deficit, employment, pensions, social security, Medicare, the oil crisis, health management, education, science, religion, patriotism, scare tactics, security arrangements, CIA, and many other topics of national interest.
In no case have I been satisfied with the clarity of the remarks, or their credibility. (…) -
WHY GEORGE CAN’T FIRE DONALD

People have wondered why Bush will not fire his Pentagon friend, Donald Rumsfeld. Some ascribe it to loyalty, to stubbornness, or to his absolutist mentality. Some believe that Rumsfeld knows where too many bodies are buried, and that firing him might force some leakage to occur. He was with Bush during his campaigns and knows what promises were made, to whom, and what inducements were offered.
If ever a Deep Throat could (…) -

I watched two actors strut on stage yesterday in Los Angeles. Arnold Schwartzenegger and George W. Bush appeared for the purpose of bolstering up faltering popularity polls, and pumping for pet projects. Arnold wanted state levees rebuilt quickly and George wanted desperately to be liked again. George went back to his Education President disguise while simultaneously seeming to do something about high gasoline prices.
You may say what (…) -
FLYING HIGH: A VERY EARLY HISTORY OF SPACE TRAVEL

People, watching birds, probably wished they too could fly. In ancient times, in many countries, flying Gods were imagined by story tellers, who invested them with immortality, supernatural powers to overcome natural conditions such as gravity, with the ability to live in the sky and travel through space.
In Ancient Sumer, gods flew in vehicles called Shems, described as rocket-like "rocks” emitting fire. It was thought possible to travel to the sky home (…) -

REQUIREMENT FOR A JUST WAR

It was a pleasant day when I sailed my small sloop out of port. I had taken on full provisions of food and drink, had my CD of THE BEST SERMONS OF PAT ROBERTSON in my player and set full sail for the eastern horizon.
Suddenly a vast wind sprang up which tossed my small sloop like a cork in a bathtub. I was blown off course, my compass stopped (…) -

George W. Bush Company, Inc. has an oversupply of Cow Cookies, Buffalo Chips, Clumps of Dump, Anal Cheese, Blurtch, and Spineless Brownfish that it would like to sell to the public as their substitute for Unvarnished Truth.
And, though many of our textile mills have been outsourced and they no longer spin thread into yarn, the Bush administration is working overtime spinning yarn into ersatz truthiness.
Their supply of (…) -

A nephew in Mexico e-mailed me a question concerning Easter. His wife is a school teacher, and her pupils wanted to know why in the U.S. bunnies and colored eggs are associated with Easter.
Most of the Mexican pupils were raised as Catholics and they only know of the alleged crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ in connection with Easter symbolism (Las Pascuas). No bunnies, no Easter Eggs. How did (…)
