WHOSE WAR WAS IT?
By Peter Fredson
November 26, 2005
Whose war was it really? Was it Bush’s War? Dick Cheney’s War? Karl Rove’s War?
There is an honest debate among bloggers and reporters about which person in the Bush administration decided that invading Iraq, for whatever reason, was a good idea. All three are neocons immersed in the philosophy of preemption, domination, and aggressivity as means to imperial glory. Any one of the three were certainly capable of putting forth (…)

A News Satire
By Peter Fredson
November 25, 2005
Every day I visit GOOGLE for its excellent news service. The other day I read another of George Bush’s incessant belligerent war rumblings against Muslim countries. The Reuters news report said basically:
“Syria would start pulling back its forces in Lebanon Monday. The United States warned it would accept no half measures and wants the Syrians gone before May elections. The United States is wary of Assad’s (…) -

By now everyone knows that all of the Bush speechwriters use Newspeak liberally. This is the fine art of making white appear to be black, war to be peace, incompetence appear to be clever leadership, torture to be simple college pranks, corruption appear to be bookkeeping mistakes, with death and destruction appearing to be joyous preparation for a wonderful eternal world of the future.
Everyone knows that a loyal (…) -

“Incongruity: strangeness, absurdity, inappropriateness”, according to my in-computer thesaurus, seems to reflect the puzzlement I feel when looking at the daily news about Iraq for the past four years.
I wonder what those young people in United States uniform, holding automatic weapons at the ready, dressed like Samurai warriors in full-field gear, are doing so far from home. Why are they not back home in Sheboygan, Duluth, or (…) -

History has long passages referring to the murderous inclinations of politicians. Just read the HISTORY OF THE PERSIAN WARS by Herodotus if you wish to get a feeling of revulsion at the senseless murders of many thousands of people because of the whims of leaders seeking power.
Perhaps you have heard of a leader of Haiti who marched a troop of soldiers over a cliff just to demonstrate to a visitor their absolute loyalty to him? (…) -
FORGIVE MY CYNICISM

I was not always cynical of American politics, civics, and public service. Indeed, I thought highly of “American Values” such as patriotism, honor, honesty, keep one’s sworn word, doing one’s duty to country, and serving honorably. Although I knew that the words “Liberty” and “Democracy” had multiple meanings for philosophers and linguists, to me they were fairly straight-forward. Indeed they were master symbols of Americanism (…) -

It is on the record that many of the GOP war hawks, that still insist war on Iraq was necessary, were draft dodgers. They sought deferments from military service until danger of losing blood or limb was over, or they joined a National Guard unit which rarely forced them to quit a job. So, with this vast military experience, most of the GOP Senators pontificate at length about war strategy, casualties, preemption, Shock and (…) -

Several weeks ago a fellow blogger remarked that I showed “unreasoning hatred” of George Bush. I then wrote an essay showing how I used reason to identify my hatred of Bush and specified his intolerable religious chauvinism.
Now I will give additional reasons why I think George Bush is the very worst President the U.S. has ever had, and that this country is in enormous danger of becoming a variant of fascist theocracy.
First and (…) -

REASONED HATRED 1
By Peter Fredson
November 14, 2005
A reader of one of my blogs critical of George W. Bush remarked that I was expressing unreasoning hatred of our President. I would like to say that I believe I am expressing reasoned hatred of Bush. I did not always hate the man. Sometimes I despised his smirk, his swagger or his very strange verbalisms, but years ago I did not hate him. I often reflected on the circumstances where his rich and powerful (…) -
WANT TO KNOW WHY BUSH DECLARED WAR?

By Peter Fredson
George Bush and most of the Republicans in Congress were alarmed by public reaction to the Bush and FEMA inaction during Katrina. They came up with a strategy to take some of the blame away. They said that everybody was to blame: city, county, state officials and maybe, perhaps, even the President may have incurred a tiny bit of blame.
Today they have reworked this strategy to take the growing heat off of the Bush administration for (…)
