Neil Cavuto Misstates (or Lies About) Pope John Paul II’s Position on Iraq
Neil Cavuto (I’ll be generous, for now) vastly misstated Pope John Paul II’s position on the Iraq war today (April 4, 2005) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto.
Hussein Ibish of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee was a guest. (Fox identified him as being from the "Progressive Muslim Unit," whatever that is.) Hussein was speaking about Pope John Paul’s pacifism and about his frequent support for people on both (…)

By JIM CONNOLLY
This week you will be inundated with honorific obituaries to Karol Wojtila, Pope John Paul II. I am writing not to honor Wojtila; he will (quite frankly) receive more honor in the next week than any individual mortal deserves. I write as a witness to the damage this man did during his 26 years as Roman pontiff to the causes of liberty and peace throughout the world.
There will be few voices such as mine raised on (…) -

4 commentsStories On Schiavo Protestor Miss One Point: He’s A Registered Sex Offender E&P Staff March 28, 2005 NEW YORK As protests outside the hospice housing Terri Schiavo in her final days mounted last week, numerous newspaper reports, many based on an Associated Press account, mentioned or quoted 10-year-old Joshua Heldreth and/or his father, Scott Heldreth. Josh was one of several youngsters arrested for crossing police lines in Pinellas Park, Fla., in an effort to take water to Schiavo. (…)

Farewell Pope John Paul- Thank you for the Wisdom
3 April 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
11 comments"Whoever decides that all the peaceful means made available under international law are exhausted assumes a grave responsibility before God, his conscience and history,"
"War is not always inevitable. It is always a defeat for humanity," he said.
"And what are we to say of the threat of a war which could strike the people of Iraq, the land of the prophets, a people already sorely tried by more than 12 years of embargo?" he said.
"War is never just another means that one can choose to (…) -

Disclaimers don’t often preface something that I hope people will read, but this is an exception. I know there are many fine, intelligent, loving, courageous Christians. Perhaps most are. I also know there are some people who call themselves Christians with about as much thoughtfulness as they call themselves New York Yankee fans. They like the kick-ass camaraderie. Herd creatures. These are the ones I’m talking about. I’d like to give them another name besides Christians (…) -
Prayers for Peace

2 commentsBuddhist Prayer for Peace
May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness--- the children, the age, the unprotected— be guarded by beneficial celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood The Prayer of Saint Francis (…) -
If Jesus returns, Karl Rove will kill him
21 March 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
9 commentsAs we enter another Easter Season, it’s become all too obvious that if Christ returns, those who hate in Jesus’s name will have him slimed, then killed.
Christ was a long-haired peace activist who would have hated the war in Iraq. "Blessed are the peacemakers" Jesus said in his defining Sermon on the Mount. "Turn the other cheek...Love thy neighbor."
Such hippie-radical ideals are the "Christian" right wing’s worst nightmare. The GOP would never tolerate an upstart like Jesus (…) -
"Hypocrite Nation"

16 comments"Hypocrite Nation" Rev. John Dear March, 2005 Last September, I spoke to some 2,000 students during their annual lecture at a Christian college in Pennsylvania. After a short prayer service for peace centered on the Beatitudes, I took the stage. “Now let me get this straight,” I said. “Jesus says, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers,’ which means he does not say, ‘Blessed are the warmakers,’ which means, the warmakers are not blessed, which means warmakers are cursed, which means, if you want to (…)

Congressman Charles Rangel at Saint Luke’s African Methodist Episcopal Church, NYC 3/12/05

1 commentA transcription of the first twenty-five minutes of the Congressman’s speech given on Saturday March 12, 2005, 2:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s AME Church, located on 1872 Amsterdam Ave., NYC.
Mr. Rangel is a gifted orator. The audience was receptive and engaged. During the question and answer phase, there were no questions regarding the West Side Stadium for which the Congressman is now on record as supporting.
