HOW MUCH DOES A BULL DEFECATE?
By Peter Fredson
August 4, 2005
I wish to formally protest the recent suspension of poor Robert Novak simply because he became irritated and indicated his displeasure with the taunting of James Carville by pointing to a biological act of a bovine in producing valuable material for vegetable gardens. Surely that is not as egregious as the words of Dick Cheney when irritated, used a word that beings with “F” but which if enunciated would overturn the (…)

4 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsby Vijay Dutt, London
Hate crimes in Britain have soared by 600 per cent causing the fear of a race divide in multicultural British society. Scotland Yard figures show there was 269 religious hate crimes, motivated by animosity towards Muslims since July 7 compared with 40 in the same period last year. A direct outcome of the two bomb attacks on London Transport system, such hate offences have jumped by nearly 600% in the capital.
Most were verbal abuses or minor assaults, but it also (…) -
Market Fundamentalists Lose in Iran (For Now)
4 August 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentThe prevailing spin on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s rise to Iran’s presidency wrongly suggests that a win for his rivals could have ushered a dawn of enlightenment. The mainstream press has largely described Iran’s competing factions as little more than vote-rigging theocrats arrayed against tolerant modernizers. In particular, strong support for Ahmadinejad among the Basij militia and Revolutionary Guard corps has earned him a reputation as a Muslim fanatic. But there is a quite modern side to his (…)

Frist On Right Side Of Stem Cell Fault Line
by Wayne Besen
Embryonic stem cells show remarkable promise because they may be able to transform themselves into any human body part. Just last week, for example, they miraculously helped Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist grow a spine!
Frist surprised colleagues and his benefactors on the extreme right by announcing his support for a House bill that would ease restrictions on federal spending on studies of stem cell colonies or lines derived (…) -

LET ME COUNT THE WAYS
Part Two
By Peter Fredson

I was puzzled by the ascension of George W. Bush to the highest office of our country. After perusing hundreds of stored files pertaining to his life, I am still puzzled. There is a missing element.
I believe it has to do with the Far Right penchant for secrecy, coupled with a strategy of stealth, misdirection, and simple imposition. At sometime in the indoctrination of Bush by a (…) -

LET ME COUNT THE WAYS. PART ONE By Peter Fredson July 31, 2005
I have been keeping track of George W. Bush and his strange shenanigans for over 6 years. I have hundreds of files on his doings, sayings, and atrocities. I did not start out hating him, but was curious about how this callow shallow inarticulate culturally-incurious spoiled rich boy could possibly have been entered into the political arena by the party bosses.
His early years shed no light on his leadership ability. His rich (…) -

John Hooper in Rome and Chris McGreal in Jerusalem
Pope Benedict XVI was yesterday immersed in the first big diplomatic crisis of his papacy after the Vatican issued an unusually blunt statement criticising Israel for its response to Palestinian attacks.
The Vatican’s stinging rebuke came after Israel demanded to know why the Pope did not refer to a Palestinian suicide bombing in remarks he made on Sunday condemning terrorist attacks in London and (…) -

Your government, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.
Your government is openly torturing people, and justifying it.
Your government puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.
Your government is moving each (…) -
Inside The Minds Of Suicide Bombers

Inside The Minds Of Suicide Bombers Laura Miller July 29, 2005 What inspires young men and women to become suicide bombers? Religious fanaticism? Nationalism? Alienation? Or some toxic mix of all three? An explosive device found in the car trunk of one of London’s suicide bombers.>The announcement that four British citizens set off the July 7 explosions that killed 52 people on London’s transport system sent a shiver down the collective spine of the Western world. It was followed by (…)
