WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the face of U.S. war policy and a lightning rod for critics worldwide, will step down, President Bush said on Wednesday.
The announcement followed dramatic victories by Democrats in Tuesday elections fueled by public anger over the Iraq war in which Democrats seized control of the House of Representatives and were close to taking the Senate.

US NEWS NETWORKS WRONG
8 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsThis is something I just noticed while visiting the CNN.com site. They show a tight race for the Senate. 49 to 49 seats. However, they show Independent chairs as 0. They are counting one independent as a Democrat. That Independent is Joe Lieberman. Who was booted from the Democratic party just a few months ago. Yes although he had been the Vice presidential candidate for Al Gore, they booted him. He had to run as an Independent. He is no longer technically a Democrat.
Very interesting. (…) -
The Democratic Victory: ‘It’s the people’s agenda, stupid’

3 commentsThe Democratic Victory: ‘It’s the people’s agenda, stupid’ By Mary MacElveen November 8, 2006
When Congresswoman, Nancy Pelosi the incoming Speaker of the House stated that impeachment was not on the table in relation to Bush, it angered most on the more liberal side of the Democratic Party including myself. Hindsight being what it is, it was smart of her to say that. In fact, if that had been our main platform, there would have been a sharp rebuke by the electorate itself. The take (…) -
Vote Flipping in Webb Allen Senate Race in Virginia
8 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsMy wife just called me from our polling place.
We are in Northern VA, a blue enclave in a red state. This morning, as I posted earlier, I had difficulties in casting my vote on the machine.
Well, she just visited the same polling place after work, and informs me that her vote for Jim Webb was flipped to Felix Allen TWICE.
She never hit the VOTE screen until her vote finally registered for Webb, but is this what we’re up against? (FYI, she laughs at my conspiracy theories, and calls DU (…) -
MD GOP Candidate Recruits Homeless to Pass Out Deceptive Flyers
7 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
Misleading flyers were handed out at several Maryland polling places by men and women recruited by the GOP governor’s campaign from out-of-state homeless shelters, the Washington Post reports. The flyers, given to voters in a heavily Democratic area, showed GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob Ehrlich as a Democrat:
Erik Markle, one of the people handing out literature for Ehrlich, who is seeking reelection, and Steele, the current lieutenant governor who is campaigning to replace retiring Sen. (…) -
Numerous Problems In Houston Texas Including MACHINES BEING SWAPPED OUT!
7 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
By 11am this morning here in Houston, The Houston Chronicle has already reported a number of election day issues with machines not working or displaying incorrect data.
Most disturbing of all, a race I’ve been watching exceedingly closely, they swapped out TWO voting machines in Tom DeLay’s old district after voting had already begun.
Voters across the Houston area today were already finding long lines and problems with electronic voting machines as they tried to cast their ballots.

They are already screwing with the vote here in Missouri
7 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
I just listened to local radio and they had people calling in to report what is happening at polling locations all over the area. The folks from Kansas reported no problems. Missouri was a completely different story.
Some of the problems:
Voters at one polling location were given the wrong ballot. A woman who was running for office came to vote and saw that her name was not on the ballot. So she complained and they changed the ballot. Another voter asked what they were going to do about (…) -
San Francisco Radio Station Accidentally Plays Political Ad Over Emergency Broadcast System
7 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
This is a test of the Emergency Alert System: Vote for Dick Mountjoy!
In an apparent violation of FCC rules, conservative talk radio station KFBK 1530 AM in Sacramento transmitted a paid political advertisement to an unknown number of other stations in the area, using the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS), thus automatically forcing the ad onto the stations’ airwaves. This is according to a press release issued today by KDVS-FM, a non-commercial community station in Davis that (…) -
