In February 2003, weeks before war was declared on Iraq, millions of people protested in the streets of the world. That call went unheeded. No international institution had the courage or conscience to stand up to the aggression of the US and UK governments. No one could stop them. It is two years later now. Iraq has been invaded, occupied, and devastated. The attack on Iraq is an attack on justice, on liberty, on our safety, on our future, on us all. We the people of conscience decided to (…)

By Peter Fredson

I live in a small town where voter apathy is at least 50% and on a rainy day will go even lower. I have very few complaints about the administration of this town. The public utilities are well managed. The water is quite drinkable except when our river gets very low, and then the water smells faintly like the bottom of a fish tank. The streets are swept often, the street lighting is adequate, potholes are fixed fairly soon, trash is removed on (…) -

Those who hold the reigns of power must endure public scrutiny for the public good - whether Democrat, Republican or Independent. Tim Ferguson, registered as a Republican since 1976, believes the Constitution and America (…) -

7 commentsA military judge threw out a guilty plea by Lynndie England, a key figure in the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, after new evidence in her trial indicated she considered herself innocent.
The decision by Judge Colonel James Pohl yesterday throws into doubt the fate of the 22-year-old reservist private, made infamous by photos showing her pointing at a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners and holding one naked inmate on a dog-leash.
The turning point was testimony by Private Charles Graner (…) -

The parents of British troops killed in Iraq are to demand that Tony Blair orders a public inquiry into the war or face legal action in the courts.
Six families will go to Downing Street on Tuesday to call for an independent inquiry into the legality of the war, after it emerged last week that the Attorney General warned the UK could lose in court if it failed to win the United Nations’ approval.

Rigging The Game

In sixth grade, I used to play pick-up basketball against a neighborhood bully and spoil sport nicknamed Major Pick. He was called Major Pick because he barked orders like a soldier and constantly picked his butt. His team would always win because the overpowering brute would either break the rules or change them.
For example, in our game, the team that first reached 15 points always won. Unless, of course, the Major Pick’s team came up short, prompting him to (…)
