In Solidarity with Giuliana Sgrena
7 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
by Omar and other friends in HAWCA
The illegal and unlawful arrest and kidnapping of all people, no matter Muslim or Christian, Hindu or Jew, is an act of inhumanity, barbaric demonstration of obscurantism and using illogical means for achieving objectives which maybe justified as right or wrong.
While we condemn all kind of kidnappings in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries of the world, hereby we deeply and whole heartedly are concerned about the fate of the Italian journalist, (…) -
Giuliana Sgrena, true defender of Iraqi and Afghan people must be release soon!

It was painful news for us to know about kidnapping of our best friend Giuliana Sgrena in Iraq. She has been a wonderful voice for people of Iraq and Afghanistan and has tried hard in the past years to inform others about the plight of Iraqis and Afghans under the so-called "war on terror" camping launched by the US government.
Giuliana was in Iraq to witness the plight of innocent Iraqi people and show to the world that the invasion of Iraq by US forces has brought nothing (…) -

Artists Against Wars
Giuliana Sgrena
The italian net of Artists against wars appeals to the kidnappers in order to release our friend Giuliana Sgrena.
It’s not Giuliana the enemy and not even the other reporters of the free press who talk sincerely in favour of the Iraki people and finally not even the volunteers of the NGO’s.
The net of Artists appeals to the Italian government and asks for the withdrawal of the Italian soldiers, like other contries have done before.

Communist success in Italy backfires on Prodi
25 January 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
By Tony Barber in Rome
An experiment in holding US-style primary elections has backfired for Italy’s centre-left opposition by denting the image of moderate reformism that party leaders deem vital to defeat Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister, in 2006.
To the surprise of opinion pollsters, and to the dismay of many centre-left leaders, a self-declared gay Catholic hardline communist, emerged as the winner this week in a primary contest to choose the opposition’s candidate to run for (…) -

The ghosts of Italy’s mafia-infested political history returned to centre stage this weekend after a business associate and political ally of Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister, was convicted of collusion with the Sicilian Mafia.
Marcello Dell’Utri, 63, was sentenced to nine years in prison on Saturday by a court in Palermo, Sicily’s capital, after a trial in which the main evidence came from crime bosses who testified for the prosecution.
"This is a sentence that will (…) -
Indymedia: the tale of the servers ’nobody’ seized
24 October 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
By John Lettice ( john.lettice at theregister.co.uk )
Nobody seized Indymedia’s servers, apparently. On the 7th October hosting company Rackspace ’acted in compliance’ with a court order and two servers belonging to Indymedia were removed from Rackspace’s premises in London.
But the denials of involvement roll in, the latest coming from UK Home Office minister Caroline Flint, who in answer to Parliamentary questions said: "I can confirm that no UK law enforcement agencies were involved (…) -

Indymedia to U.S., U.K., Swiss and Italian Authorities: "Hands Off Our Websites"
13 October 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
Evidence is beginning to mount that the authorities of at least four countries (Switzerland, Italy, U.K. and U.S.A.) are involved in last week’s seizure of two of Indymedia’s servers that brought down more than 20 of the Indymedia network’s web sites and several internet radio streams. Indymedia has yet to receive any official statement or information about what the order entailed or why it was issued.
An FBI spokesperson, Joe Parris, confirmed to Agence France-Presse that the FBI issued a (…) -
FBI took the hard drives of IMC servers in the UK
8 October 2004 par (Open-Publishing)
2 comments"The FBI issued an order to Rackspace in the US (Indymedia’s provider with offices
in the US and London) to remove physically one of our servers. The order was
so short term that Rackspace had to give away our hard drives in the UK. The
servers hosted numerous local IMCs. If you find a site is down: that might be
the reason"
The servers "ahimsa 2" have the following Indymedias: Nantes, Belgrade,
Liege, Oost-Vlaanderen, Andorra, Euskalherria, Lille, Nice, the U.K., Poland,
