Will Louisiana lead the nation?

Last year Hurricanes Katrina and Rita pounded Louisiana with a horrible one-two punch of destruction. This year, it’s just possible that Louisiana will send forth its own hurricane: a political hurricane to create a more representative democracy in America.
On May 10, a Louisiana house committee approved the National Popular Vote plan for presidential elections. If signed into law, it would make Louisiana the first of what promises to be dozens of states entering into an (…) -

3 May 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentMay 2, 2006 - A raging fire laid waste to a complex of seven old warehouses on Brooklyn’s waterfront on Tuesday, sending a huge plume of acrid smoke over Brooklyn that evoked memories of the World Trade Center attacks nearly five years ago.
Shortly after the walls of one five-story brick warehouse collapsed, Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta said the cause of the 10-alarm fire would be investigated as possible arson.
"We’re calling it suspicious in origin," he said in a street news (…) -

Eight months after Katrina: ’Don’t come back to New Orleans unless you intend to join the fight for justice!’
by Bill Quigley Six weeks after Katrina, public housing tenants were evicted from several developments, using storm damage as a pretext. Driving out residents from livable homes made HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson’s prediction of a "whiter New Orleans" a self-fulfilling prophecy. Photo: forestparkresist@gmail.com

On Monday, April 17, 2006, two bodies were found buried beneath what used to be a home in the Lower 9th Ward. Their discovery raised to 17 the number of Hurricane Katrina fatalities that have been discovered in New Orleans in the past month and a half. Katrina is now directly blamed for the deaths of 1,282 Louisiana residents. Eight months after Katrina, the state reports 987 people are (…) -

While children continue to die twenty years after the Chernobyl catastrophe, an out-of-touch (and often corrupt) fringe advocates a "rebirth" for the failed technology that is killing them.
These pro-nuke die-hards seem unable to face the solution to both global warming and our economic future: the exploding revolution in renewable energy and (…) -

New Orleans - When August Blanchard returned to New Orleans from Pennsylvania in late December, his mother was still missing. Family members, scattered across the country, had been calling hospitals, the Red Cross and missing persons hot lines, hoping she had been rescued.
But Mr. Blanchard, 26, had a bad feeling. Twice, he (…)
