“Canada is spending more public money on its military today than it has since the Second World War, says a new study from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
According to the study, by Steven Staples, Director of the Rideau Institute and CCPA Research Associate, and Bill Robinson, Senior Advisor with the Rideau Institute, Canada’s military spending will reach $18.24 billion in 2007-08 — an increase of 9 percent over 2006-07 — and will continue to rise to $19.418 billion by (…)

A world under surveillance
7 October 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentFrom surveillance cameras to data pirating, every bit of life is scanned and stored to meet economic and political agendas. Until awareness is heightened and proper legislation put in place, our right to privacy will continue to be violated, said privacy activists at the Privacy Rights in a World under Surveillance conference held last weekend at Montreal’s Sheraton Centre.

Democracy, Not Agents Provocateurs (video)
28 August 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
By Caspar Davis British Columbia Editorialist
I am disgusted, but not surprised, that police agent provocateurs attempted to discredit the peaceful demonstrations at the North American summit in Montebello, Quebec.
I was at the Seattle WTO meeting in 1999 as an accredited observer, and I followed the events there closely. Although that event is always referred to in the media as "the battle of Seattle" and the epitome of violence, the only violence on the part of the hundreds of (…) -
The Murder of Emery: Wilhelm Reich 101
26 August 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
I came across a passage by Wilhelm Reich that resonates true today, as it did in 1953 when he wrote it, as it did 2000 years ago from which he referenced it. The passage is from the book “The Murder of Christ”, and is as follows:
“This is the way it has been and has remained to this very day and will go on being for quite some time. They will not cease to kill this way until they have been rendered powerless to kill the soul in every human fruit already in the womb before it saw (…) -
DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE SECURITY AND PROSPERITY PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT?
20 August 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
1 comment“SPP has three fundamental objectives.to create more advantageous conditions for transnational corporations and remove remaining barriers to the flow of capital and crossborder production within the framework of NAFTA. It wants to secure access to natural resources, especially oil. And it wants to create a regional security plan based on “pushing its borders out” into a security perimeter that includes Mexico and Canada.”- Laura Carlsen, International Relations Centre. (…)

Millenium promise conference
9 November 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
In 2006, how to explain so much poverty around the world? Today, november 9th, a conference about poverty among children, the "Millenium promise conference", is opening in Montreal, Canada. Will be there, star actress Mia Farrow and former US President, Bill Clinton. It is strange indeed to see Clinton there, the man who cut welfare benefits when he was president. Maybe he is a new man now.
It is difficult to explain why our political leaders with plenty of diplomas from top (…) -

ISRAEL, PALESTINE, AND CANADA
John Chuckman
Canada’s Thirty-Percent Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, just made a speech at a B’nai Brith banquet. Normally, there would be nothing notable in this, but his words this time reinforced controversial statements he made while Israel savagely bombed Lebanon. He also continued driving an ugly new Republican-style wedge into Canada’s national politics after calling Liberal leadership candidates "anti-Israel."
Harper said that his government (…) -

Timeline of the Progress Toward a North American Union from Vive Canada Canadian, U.S., and Mexican elites, including CEOS and politicians, have a plan to create common North American policies and further integrate our economies. This plan goes by various names and euphemisms, such as "deep integration", "NAFTA-plus", "harmonization", the "Big Idea", the "Grand Bargain", and the "North American Security and Prosperity Initiative". Regardless of which name your prefer, the end goal of all of (…)

While the media were busy obsessing over rumours of a budding romance between Condoleezza Rice and Peter MacKay last week, a more significant relationship was developing behind closed doors.
Away from the spotlight, from Sept. 12 to 14, in Banff Springs, Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day and Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor met with U.S. and Mexican government officials and (…) -
Canada fights to keep its water

1 commentCanada fights to keep its water By Linda Duffin Business Reporter, BBC World Service, Calgary, Canada
One country has abundant fresh water, far more than it needs. Across the border there is simply not enough and it has yet to find a solution to the problem.
This is the situation Canada and the US find themselves in.
Canada has, by some estimates, up to 20% of the world’s fresh water supplies and only 0.5% of the world’s population.
You would think there would be enough to go (…)
