As President Bush orders more troops to Iraq, thousands of demonstrators marched on Washington’s National Mall Saturday to urge the withdrawal of U.S. forces.

The Washington Post reported authorities have pegged the crowd at about 100,000 people, including venerable war opponents such as Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Penn chided Bush for what he said was trying to make Americans afraid.

"Remember a time when presidents said ’the only thing you have to fear is fear itself’ — now we have a president who says ’be afraid; be very afraid.’ Well, we are not afraid," Penn said.

The coalition "United for Peace and Justice" organized the march and pledged to hold more demonstrations in the future.

Saturday’s protest consisted of several events going on simultaneously. One rally, run by a women’s peace group called "CodePink" was held on Pennsylvania Avenue and included a large bin filled with shoes they said were representative of Iraqi civilians that have died since the war started.

U.S. Citizens for Peace and Justice movement activists hold banners in front of Rome’s U.S. Embassy to Italy, Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, to protest the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq and to demand that the newly elected congress refuse to fund the Bush administration wars. The number on the banner at right refers to the Iraqis who reportedly died since the start of the war in Iraq. (Plinio Lepri)

  • How sad that the peace demon strators against their own troops should feel the way they do .
If one looks at the problem slightly differebt they would see that the fall of Saddam was a good thing for Iraq & the world .Do you remember the 500,000 children who were supposedly dying when Saddam was in power , well this problem is definately better , the problem of an Iraq with a million soldiers 3,000 tanks or 300 war planes is no more, the benefirs of having coalition soldiers in the middle of the main oil region in the world are incontestable.
It’s just such a shame that some misguided people whatever the cause denigrate our troops & don’t support them.
In another time they would of been called traitors .

    • Bushwa...
Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.
Iraq had nothing to do with Al Qaeda.

White House anxiety is mounting over the prospect that top officials—including deputy chief of staff Karl Rove and counselor Dan Bartlett—may be forced to provide potentially awkward testimony in the perjury and obstruction trial of Lewis (Scooter) Libby.

      George W. Bush is a criminal... a liar, a murder, a thief...

George W. Bush has ran up more red ink than all 42 of his predecessors — combined.

George W. Bush will go down in American history as the worst and most corrupt President ever.

No amount of debate with or deflection by frothy mouthed, rabid, right wing lunatics, like you, will change that.

    • I heartedly disagree with you , President Bush is a president who unlike some others speaks his mind & follows through with his actions my only regret is that he has only 2 more years to wipe out the scourge of islamic fascism , please god (any god) that another president will see the problems with islam in the same way & will follow the same course.

    • LOL,,, I think the whole thing this weekend was funny...

You can see just how many are watching and care about ’ those’ people. This guy Bush is smart and I like the way he handles the things that have to be handle.

      LOL

People think this guy Bush is just going to sit back and not do a thing,, I beg to differ! this time period may be a defining point in the middle east! The timing could not have been better.

Let then think your weak and then line the street with blood.

Kept up the good work Bush, and remember Truman had a 22% pole rating ’’’the worst’’ (A,, DEM...lol how did that happen) in American history and just look as to what we trhink of him now.

    • Do not worry a bit about the only 2 years left for Bush,,someone just as good will be in power to do the deed, Have faith in the greatest country on earth. Without us (Americas) this site would not have been possiable. We are very smart, very keen indeed we have learned that its better to have so many be on the wrong side at just the perfrct time in history.

      GOD BLESS THE USA..

At this great COMMIE site America made..

I also think in a few short years the ’entire’ internet will be ’seal’ up. That The USA will be able to take off, and put on ’ANYTHING’ its wants to. Allowing even more control of the sad world we live in. People need to be told what to do..and we Americans know whats best in the long run for all.

Crimmals ....(,,,,spell me funny,, have to watch out ONLY..)

Sam Pender is the pen name of Scott Malensek who wrote the ’The Weekend Warrior’ an autobiographical chronicle of his experiences playing paintball survival games, and ’Black Rain’ which is a conventional WWIII novel with China, North Korea, and several Arab nations which is a flight of fantasy and fiction.

He should stay with fiction and being a weekend warrior rather than attempting to fictionalize the news.

    • YOU KNOW YOU RIGHT WING DUMB BASTERS ARE GOING TO DIE BEHIND BUSHES BULLSHIT AND YOU ARE JUST TO DUMB TO UNDERSTAND IT. THE DAY IS COMING JUST KEEP MESSING WITH THE WORLD AND SEE. BUT I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME WITH THE INGORANCE PEOPLE OF THE USA.
      FLOYD

    • 146:Nice grammar,it sure fits what Bush can only do,lol.Go and sleep with Goebbels you dummy,if you know who he was, lol.

  • Anyone who after all these years, still rallies behind the decider in chief and trusts him,
should enlist or enlist thier child to go fight in the middle east.
If they believe in this Noble cause let them go and save us from mankind’s greatest threat.
Go spread freedom and liberty at gun point.
while your at it , breath in some of that depteted uranium US bombs are spreading.
If you come back alive, unmaimed or undisturbed get ready to go back ......
There is no end to these wars .There is still Iran ......bring em on
If ignorance is bliss these Bush followers must live in paradise.

  • "Those who live by the sword, shall die by the sword"......"Love Thy neighbor as Thyself".....There is NO Them and Us. People have forgotten Love. Does it really take $400 billion and 150,000 troops to change a regime? Or is there another agenda. What price do you have to pay for insecurity issues stemmed from Governments that instill fear upon its people?

    • Bush idolizes Hitler, so many of his programs are direct copies of Nazi measures. Its good to see so many free thinkers here parroting the furhers themes. Lots of luck defending our american furher (bush). His program is that of the anti christ as all dictators and presidents of the world are. When christ was tempted by satan he was offered any kingdom (showing who controls those kingdoms). The ones protesting the killing, the elite bankers, the oppression of the disenfranchised are the real heroes. Do unto other as you would have them do unto you. Not hard to understand but too hard to follow for the neocons who are promoting a pyramid game where they are at the top and everyone else at the bottom.
