Marching in the streets, making demands, the only rights I see that ILLEGAL immigrants might have in the U.S. are these:
You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Do you understand?
Anything you do say may be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand?
You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. Do you understand?
If you cannot afford an attorney, (…)

Anti-immigrant hysteria versus common sense
3 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)

Last weekend in Los Angeles somewhere between half a million and two million legal and illegal immigrants and their supporters hit the streets protesting the same federal legislation that brought at least three hundred thousand into the streets of Chicago two weeks earlier, and smaller crowds in dozens of other cities. As this article is written, the U.S. Senate has just stricken the most onerous provisions of pending immigration bills which make an instant felon (…) -
Reigniting a call to action
3 April 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Juan Gonzalez
When a movie called "Walkout" premiered on HBO two weeks ago, no one had any idea it would inspire hundreds of thousands of Hispanics across the country to march in the streets and end up altering a major debate in Congress over immigration reform.
But that’s precisely what happened with a new movie by Edward James Olmos and Moctesuma Esparza, two of Hollywood’s biggest Latino filmmakers.
Directed by Olmos and produced by Esparza, the film recreates a spontaneous (…) -

Marches, walkouts and calls for a boycott.
The immigrants-rights protests of the past week have sparked Latinos’ passion like nothing since the farm workers marches and grape boycotts led by Cesar Chavez in the 1960s and ’70s - drawing political parallels and generational ties.
Considered by many to be the first to attract Latinos to a massive U.S. social-justice movement, the legacy and tactics of Chavez - whose birthday is (…) -

Union struggle is about the top issues for most Americans: health insurance and a secure future

Gene Carroll is the director of the Union Leadership Program at Cornell University, New York State School of Industrial & Labor Relations, in New York City.
Back in December, when those 34,000 pesky bus and subway workers who belong to Transport Workers Union Local 100 in New York City walked off the job, the news media and local government traffic managers from Riverhead (…) -

WORK IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY
By Peter Fredson
March 28, 2006
It is not my intention to weigh in on the current immigration debate in the U.S. other than to say that George Bush has been careless, negligent and inept at dealing with securing our borders. As I looked at the protest demonstrations on TV, in Los Angeles, most of the several thousand protestors looked like they recently came from some Mexican countryside towns.
That jogged my memory. After WWII I had 4 years of G.I. Bill (…) -
Reparations Are Due

2 commentsAny amnesty for ILLEGAL immigrants or guest worker’s program in the United States should be tied to several $100 billion dollars in Reparations for African Americans.
Any African American born prior to the 1965 Civil Right Act would be entitled to a share.
In the mean time, the laws already on the books concerning immigration should be fully enforced.
Quite frankly, I don’t see the difference between illegal aliens and terrorist.
But, then again on the Reparations issue, I believe (…) -
