* From false co-management and cooperatives to the deceitful EPS, we present a balance of what has happened in Venezuela after at least 7 years of pretending to build a socialist economy, where the available data and verifiable facts belie the failure of the Chavez administration. Since 2001 we have heard the government’s promises to foster a production model where the Venezuelan state would create the conditions to enable and support the growth of a new endogenous economy – at first (…)

The Linguistics of Deception
21 May 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
When CNN announced their documentary (transcript here) on the assassination of Martin Luther King, which aired here in Germany on April 6, I predicted that they would not mention the verdict of the 1999 Jowers trial.
This was of course the civil suit that the King family brought against Loyd Jowers, the owner of the restaurant below the rooming house where James Earl Ray rented a room on April 4, 1968, and from which he supposedly shot King on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel opposite. (…) -

The ‘blaming the sixties industry’ that emerged in the United States from the late eighties has its own distinctive counterpart in France. The events of May-June 1968, where nine million people stopped working and brought France to a complete standstill for five to six weeks, has inspired a voluminous literature. By the end of 1968, in France (…) -

How Many Connections Does It Take?
12 May 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
"Republicrats" (1) is a phrase I like turning over in my mind into various forms, such as, "Republic Rats" and "Rats Who Run the Republic." It works better than Republic Cans because cans don’t have legs, legalese teeth, and rarely hide so cleverly. Democ Rats convey little to the imagination; they seem to prefer blending in with power wherever and whenever they can, assuming they exist, since they hide so well behind the other kind.
"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather (…) -

Battle in Seattle- Anti-Capititalism on the Big Screen
by Paula Geraghty
Townsend’s interpretation of the famous Battle in Seattle, where the World Trade Organisation was shut down due to the emergence of what the media labelled the anti-globalisation movement has finally hit the big screen, and it doesn’t get much bigger (in Dublin) than the prestigous Savoy Screen Number 1!
The whirlwind fictional interpretation of the event which launched the global phenomenon of Anti-capitalism has (…) -

3 comments“I am here [at this demonstration] as a ‘personal’ witness!” Activist, poet and Vietnam War veteran, Ms. Madeleine Mysko
Baltimore, MD - On April 24, 2008, a spirited antiwar protest was held in this city in the downtown area. It was sponsored by MoveOn.org and Progressive Maryland. One of the activists participating was Ms. Madeleine Mysko, a registered nurse and a veteran of the Vietnam War. She ripped into Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), who has consistently voted to fund the Iraq War to (…) -
Anarchism in Venezuela, past and present
17 April 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
* This is a brief outline of the libertarian footprint in the history of Venezuela, prepared by members of the Collective Editorship of El Libertario www.nodo50.org/ellibertario. We hope that this serves as a useful point of reference for those who are interested in the subject. The profile of anarchism in Venezuelan history has been less pronounced than in other parts of Latin America, where it has vigorously manifested itself through collective struggles, publications, personalities and (…)

1 commentPortuguese anti-GM crop action classified as terrorism.
GM er | 13.04.2008 23:24 | Bio-technology Portuguese Judicial Police classifies action against genetically modified corn as a "terrorist" act in Europol report.
In the last "EU terrorism situation and trend report" of Europol, the partial mowing of a field in Silves (Portugal), last summer, is classified as a terrorist act. In France, Germany and the UK, similar actions are often far more radical and happen regularly. Yet, they (…)
