Home > John Conyers: Plant or Vegetable?
Fascism only occurs with the LACK of an organized opposition. When you know about PNAC, you know these bastards have been planning these wars et al for a long time. OF course they knew there would be widespread opposition, so they also planned (planted) the opposition.
Consider DemocraticUnderground, after 5 years of BushCo Disaster Capitalism (create a disaster, then capitalize on it), and 80,000 DUers on the case, wouldn’t you think they’d have a virtual encyclopedia of Bush’s Crimes? I’m sure the atrocities have been documented in various posts, but for some reason "Skinner" doesn’t see the need to organize it all. If I sent someone to DU to find Election Fraud info, would they be able to find it? Why not? Members cannot search DU unless they donate- what kind of activist forum is that?
In the 60s and 70s COINTELPRO had to fight anti-war leaders like Lennon and Abbie Hoffman- this time around they planted the leaders and most Americans follow like sheep. They even have plants in Congress, like John Conyers. Think about it, Conyers investigations always lead to a dead end. He is the master stalling agent for BushCo.
* Election Fraud 2004- Conyers released the 100 page report Jan 5, the day before the big vote. What he couldn’t release a summary a little sooner than that? Did you watch the Jan 6th Challenge- Conyers’s big moment to speak, he was really weak- then he passed his time to fellow Critter Sanders whose first statement was, "I believe Bush won the election." If Conyers had damning evidence of fraud, then why did he pass his time to someone with the opposite viewpoint? It makes no sense. What has Conyers done about fixing the election process for 2006? Nothing. But you can buy a signed copy of his report for $50. What a hero.
* Downing Street Memo- After the June 16 hearing with Ray McGovern, Joe Wilson... Articles of Impeachment should have been introduced the next day. What did Conyers do- nothing! Then in July, Barbara Lee introduced a Resolution of Inquiry, which has to be acted on in 14 days, but aww shucks, she introduced it too late and Congress went on vacation for the month of August. When they returned, Katrina happened and the Res of Inquiry was lost in the aftermath.
What’s Conyers doing now? His staff wrote a 273 page report about the Lies that led to war:
Our investigation has found that while the allegations set forth in this Report rise to the level of impeachable misconduct.. more information and investigatory authority is needed [because] the Bush Administration has largely ignored efforts by Members of Congress to obtain necessary information and documents
Huh? Bush and Co have committed impeachable offenses, but since they refuse to give us information justifying their actions, all we can do is keep asking nicely? If members of Congress had introduced Articles of Impeachment last June, then perhaps the disaster in New Orleans could have been averted. But they failed, and thousands more Americans are dead.

Many people believe that Conyers’ "Constitution in Crisis" report is also about the NSA Illegally spying on Americans- it is not- it’s all about Iraq. People think it’s about spying because Conyers introduced it as a bait and switch right when the NSA Spy scandal was exposed. Many people just assume he’s talking about the Spying due to the timing.
I am so sick of progressives looking to Conyers and the Dems to do something. Right now, they are all guilty of Failing to Defend the Constitution. There is no further investigation required- period. Bush admitted to an impeachable offense, Congress just re-wrote the law to make this UnConsitutional Spying "legal". According to Conyers’ himself, the new language says that:
a warrant must be sought whenever possible (read convenient). Frankly, if you don’t get penalized for ignoring the court in the first place, where’s the incentive to now begin obeying the law? This is absolutely disgraceful.
Why isn’t this enough for Conyers to introduce Articles of Impeachment? If not now, then when?
If the truth were known, every single American (save the nazi skinheads) would demand impeachment for Bush and Co. We need to Demand a Vote on Articles of Impeachment ASAP, so it’s on the record. For those that vote against impeachment, there is still time to get Pro-Impeachment Candidates on the ballot in 49 states.
The time has come when Silence is Betrayal. It’s time to offer CongressCritters immunity if they vote for Articles of Impeachment. Otherwise they too will be tried for complicity- Every Damn One of Them.

I believe the word we are looking for here is "Quisling." Vidkun Quisling was the politician who sold his country (Norway) down the river to the Nazis. It is a term meaning a collaborator of the worst kind. In this connection, almost the entire membership of Congress must be considered quislings, since they are supporting the facist leadership of America wholeheartedly (in their votes, not what they are doing). Watch what they do, and not what they say!
Remember, after Norway was freed, Quisling was tried and shot for Hight Treason. So should they...

I agree with you. Any Senator or Congressman who votes against investigating one of Bush’s many suspect illegal acts is an accessory to the crime[s]. They are part of the cover up and thus are also guilty.
Democrats should be reminding the Repubs daily of the legal consequences that may ensue.

I would say a plant AND a vegetable. At the recent impeachment forum he was really empowered- ’we have all the evidence-they should definately be impeached’ but then when the audience asked ’why aren’t you introducing articles of impeachment’ he says ’that’s not the way it works’....first you need a committee...then you yada yada stall stall....The Republicans on the other hand were looking into every stupid idea for getting Clinton on something like misusing the whitehouse christmas list etc etc- and once they had him on lying about sex- they had him, there was no shitting around with pursuing it. If the democrats were serious about accountability they wouldn’t just accept these criminal activities and then say ’oh darn’.
John Conyers voted to send Iran to the UN security council for violations..lol...ten years away from a possible nuke but he thinks it is something America really needs to deal with right now?
Looks like he ’can get fooled again’ or he is in on it! Only FOUR congressmen voted against Bush’s sham in Iran- Kucinich, Stark, Paul, McDermott.

Oh c’mon...
If Conyers had succeeded in pushing through articles of impeachment, those articles
would have needed the majority of the vote of Congress, which is overwhelmingly Democratic.
So what is needed is to get some type of victory against the Republicans in the elections
in the fall, or ELSE to wait it out until enough Republicans turn against the leader.
I do like the opening of the discussion. There are certainly GATEKEEPERS everywhere.
But I don’t find the flimsy arguments here as proof that Conyers is one of the GATEKEEPERS.

That is just the point. How is there going to BE a fair election? The election challenge was wasted and now we’re stuck in the same situation.
Conyers(and others) need to push for impeachment so we can force everyone to take a stand BEFORE the election(so we can no who is with us and who is against us heh heh) which would make it such a landslide we can overcome diebold..maybe...
Anyhow Why don’t our congresspeople just do the right thing because it is the right thing, you remember the constitution? It would renew people’s belief in justice, and everyone would stand up behind him shouting loudly until we got what we wanted. Right now there is nothing...no one to get behind.

The Democrats are afraid of their shadows. They have no intention of trying to impeach Bush. And they are pushing hard to make it all but impossible for third parties, who might actually try to start impeachment proceedings, to run for office. No public campaign funds for a third party candidate who can’t get signatures from at least 10% of the total number of voters in the previous election. The 10% figure would be required for partial funding; for full funding the figure is 20%. This is part of HR 4694 sponsored by David Obey and cosponsored by, among others, Barney Frank, James McGovern and Henry Waxman—all supposed “liberal” Democrats. But NONE of these are seriously talking about impeachment. Conyers fits in perfectly with this bunch.

There is no such thing as "Democrats" or "Republicans"... They are the same. The Plant-Vegetable Conyers is co-opted as any in the "opposition" camp.
Really, save for some selective memory, the U.S. never had an "opposition" when comes to her wars.
Suppose that a Democrat is elected president in the next round and s/he continues Bush’s policies; what will the people who currently complain about Bush say then? One only has to imagine John F. Kerry in 2008 talking points from his 2004 run — Did he really oppose anything of Bush’s talking points?
Has anyone been listening to H.R. Clinton? She sounds like a female John McCain. If she got elected, do you not think she would continue with what has become common and effortless in this administratioin, like the NSA spying, the Iraq war, the fake economy, the tax cuts, the debt, etc.?
Is that what is called "opposition" in America?
