The scientific method involves a successive process of getting accurate data; setting up and critically testing potentially falsifiable hypotheses (models) of reality; and then refining our models of reality based on this experimentation. Of course lying, denial, rubbing out, fudging, or otherwise censoring the data utterly de-rails the scientifc process and that is why there is zero tolerance for lying in Science.

A message to all Australians, are you out of your fuckin’ minds? - Australia’s Internet censorship
26 October 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
By Chycho
A few days ago I came across the news that the Australian government was implementing plans for a no opt-out censored Internet. This will be a multi-million dollar project and will be “mandatory for all Australians”, which means that “Australians will be unable to opt-out of the government’s pending Internet content filtering scheme, and will instead be placed on a watered-down blacklist.”
If Australians allow this scheme to be implemented, then it means that they will be (…) -

Pentagon Wants Cyberwar Range to ’Replicate Human Behavior and Frailties’
11 May 2008 par (Open-Publishing)
By Noah Shachtman
The Pentagon’s way-out researchers don’t just want to build an Internet simulator, to test out cyberwar tactics. They want the range’s operators to "realistically replicate human behavior and frailties," too.
Congress has ordered the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or Darpa, to put together a National Cyber Range, as part of a massive (and massively secret) $30 billion, government-wide effort better prep for battle online. The project is now considered a top (…) -

PARIS, March 12 (PL).- The United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) withdrew its sponsorship today from the French group Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF), on the occasion of “Internet Freedom Day.”
Diplomatic sources from UNESCO told Prensa Latina that the agency made the decision due to the repeated demonstration of a lack of ethics on the part of RSF in its goal of disqualifying a certain number of countries.
The conduct of RSF does not fit the profile or (…)
