Unless you belong to the select and dwindling group of those with fully employer-paid health coverage-or to the 40-million-and-counting with no health insurance at all-you’ve probably noticed your health insurance premiums rising at a frightening pace. In 2005, premiums for family coverage rose by an average of 9.2%, six percentage points more than the rate of inflation, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Annual Survey Of Employer Health Benefits. The cost of health (…)

Dave Zweifel: Clinton, health care industry get cozy
24 July 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentBy Dave Zweifel
As long as money holds sway in our political system, nothing should surprise us any more.
But even my jaw dropped last week when I saw the story that Hillary Clinton is being plied with more money from the health care industry and pharmaceutical companies than any other U.S. senator except Pennsylvania Republican Rick Santorum.
Yes, this is the same Hillary Clinton who was belittled and disparaged by many of these same donors when in 1993 she, as head of her husband (…) -

"Relief" For Aristocracy

1 comment"Relief" For Aristocracy By Robert L. Moore June 26, 2006 If achieving one’s goals is the measure of a successful presidency, then George W. Bush is one of the more successful presidents in history. He has, after all, helped transfer much of the nation’s wealth into the hands of the already wealthy, which has long been a major goal of the Republican right.
Bush’s rewriting the tax code diverted billions away from the nation’s treasury and into the clutches of select multimillionaires — (…) -

DETROIT — Dozens of Ford Motor Co. union retirees were in federal court Wednesday to ask a judge to reject an agreement between the automaker and the United Auto Workers that would cut their health benefits to help ease Ford’s financial troubles.
The retirees argued that they were denied a say in the deal, which could cost them hundreds of dollars a year in higher health care costs.

Statistics don’t lie.
Figures from the World Health Organization clearly show that The United States lags behind 36 other countries in overall health system performance ranging from infant mortality, to adult mortality, to life expectancy.

Mitt Romney’s Unfair Health Care

Recently, the state of Massachusetts passed a universal health care bill which is being hailed by the media as an ideal model for federal and state level legislation to extend health care to all Americans. While congress and state governments across the nation should start taking action to achieve the goal of extending health coverage to all those who deserve it, they would be better advised to formulate a different approach. The legislation championed by Mitt Romney is (…) -

Sacramento — California’s largest employers would be required to prop up the state’s medical insurance program for the poor if they don’t offer their workers generous enough health benefits under a bill set for introduction in the Senate.
Modeled after a law passed earlier this month in Maryland that only affected mega-retailer Wal-Mart, the California legislation would require employers of more than (…)
