A former member of the Red Brigades, Marina Petrella was convicted in absentia in 1992, and sentenced to life in prison. An Italian court found her guilty of the murder of a police chief in Rome in 1981, and the kidnapping of a magistrate.
She was arrested in December 1982 and gave birth to her first daughter in prison a year later. In 1986, however, after being granted bail, she fled to France.
Like other fugitive far-left activists, she benefited from a policy of (…) -

Monsanto and the other major biotech companies – Syngenta, Bunge, Cargill, etc. – are all set on owning the world’s food supply. Monsanto is by far the leader in this nightmare of destroying organic agriculture and millennia-old biodiversity.
They have no respect whatsoever for the lives and the livelihood of farmers or, for that matter, any concern for the people who are exposed to severe health hazards from eating (…) -

The band had just started up its loud farewell repertoire. Sarkozy, President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Olmert clasped hands in unity for the cameras.
Suddenly a shot was heard, or not heard, depending on where you were standing. Radios came alive and there was a flurry of activity. Bodyguards did (…) -

The ‘blaming the sixties industry’ that emerged in the United States from the late eighties has its own distinctive counterpart in France. The events of May-June 1968, where nine million people stopped working and brought France to a complete standstill for five to six weeks, has inspired a voluminous literature. By the end of 1968, in France (…) -
The Politics of Bling-Bling Hits France Sarkozy’s Cultivated Anti-Intellectualis

Nicolas Sarkozy, allegedly the most Anglophile (or rather Americanophile) president of the 5th Republic failed his Science Po degree in the late 70s because his English was so poor that he was barred from sitting the politics exams. In the run up to the war in Iraq, the allegedly "Anti-American" Chirac was able to explain the French position in English before the US media, a small feat totally out of reach for the monolingual Sarkozy.
Sarkozy did not have to make (…) -
