Like Amish teenagers, Europe’s voters were not offered a truly free choice
Amish communities practise the institution of rumspringa. At 17 their children, until then subject to strict family discipline, are set free. They are allowed, solicited even, to go out and experience the ways of the modern world - they drive cars, listen to pop music, watch TV and get involved in drinking, drugs and wild sex. After a couple of years they are expected to decide: will they return to be full members (…)

France’s Magnificent Non!
5 June 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentBy ALEXANDER COCKBURN
Itinerant pundits touching down briefly in Paris lost no time in stigmatizing the French for their resounding Non! in last week’s referendum on the proposed Constitution for Europe. The French were charged with selfishness, self-absorption, nostalgia for a lost empire, unwholesome obsession with Descartes and Jacobinism and other crimes too frightful for individual citation.
Actually the French did something both logical and heroic. The logic, supposedly a French (…) -

Hello everybody !!
I’m Eînte. I’m french. I usually post often in the french section of Bellaciao. But if I’m writing here, that’s because I wanted to suggest to organise ourselves to make a big european demonstration in every countries of Europe, the same day, against the EU’s authoritarianism and for the social progress.
Each population has got a reason to demonstrate :

=> that one which could have a referendum but its government (…) -

On May 29, 2005, under a blazing sun, a raggle-taggle army of French patriots, nationalists, libertarians, conservatives, socialists and communists joined together as one in an unprecedented strategic alliance and mounted a stunning, crippling attack on the New World Order in the heart of Europe.
Just three days later, fired by the courage of their French cousins to the south, the Dutch people rallied to the standard and put to flight (…) -
The End, French Style

1 commentToday’s seismic shift in sentiment on Wall Street was due in no small part to the courageous vote by the citizens of France in turning down the proposition on ratification of the EU Constitution on Sunday. Their nay-saying to the much of the conceptual structure of the European Union struck a major chord for national identity and self-determination over the collectivism of the EU.
The ramifications of this vote are likely to be far-reaching and extremely liberating. In essence, the people (…) -

1 commenthello! i wanted to show you this calling:
We, citizens of Europe, deem that : Till now, European construction, has avoid people. Human rights, being subjected to economic interests, are mocked in their conception and enforcement.
This is especially true with the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe, from the way in which it was elaborated and the economic primacy over human factor that it ratifies. Consequently, we, citizens, men and women, deny any legitimacy to this text, and (…) -
France : they Just Said, "NO!!"

French citizens have just said "NO" to the new constitution that was submitted to their vote. I have heard so many things, in both the French and international media, so many analyses of the "NO" campaign in which I don’t see my opinion included, that I want to comment.
First, I had some difficulties in making my mind up. Like the journalists of MARIANNE, a weekly which I favor, I was induced to vote "YES" by my old European convictions, yet "NO" by logical (…) -

PARIS - French voters rejected the
European Union’s first constitution Sunday, President Jacques Chirac said — a stinging repudiation of his leadership and the ambitious, decades-long effort to further unite the continent.

Jon Henley in Paris, Patrick Wintour and Nicholas Watt in Brussels
France’s voters last night decisively rejected the new European constitution, plunging the country into political upheaval and the EU into the deepest crisis in its 50-year history.
The outcome also prompted immediate speculation in London that Britain’s planned referendum on the treaty was now pointless.

The second French revolution

2 commentsCongratulations France!- Can you send your revolutionary spirit to the US? What the British press had to say about the result of the French EU referendum
"It is trite to dismiss this ballot as the sort of intemperate activity that the French engage in every so often, one more ultimately futile revolt to add to a string of others ... The French have never repudiated a ’European’ cause in the past. That they have done so now demands deep contemplation.
"The view of the French electorate (…)
