Professor Tim Flannery is a leading Australian environmentalist but raised the ire of many other environmentalists by supporting the empirically ineffective and hence counterproductive Carbon Trading-based Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) approach to putting a price on carbon pollution. He has now rejected the sensible approach of the vegetarians by stating that “I believe that in a world facing a food shortage and a climate crisis, livestock represent a potent weapon in the fight to (…)

Man-made climate change and floods: 50 expert, science-informed views re extreme floods & climate change
19 January 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentThe incidence of floods has greatly increased throughout the world in recent decades. However, because the day to day weather is highly variable one cannot attribute any specific weather event (such as the current Asian, South American and Australian floods) to man-made global warming. It is clear that increased atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution leads successively to global warming, increased sea temperature, increased evaporation, increased air moisture and thence to increased (…)

Scientific opinions, global warming & 2010-2011 Pakistan, Brazil, Sri Lanka & Australia flood disasters
15 January 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
Because the day to day weather is highly variable one cannot attribute the severity of any specific weather event (such as the current La Niña-associated Queensland and Eastern and Southern Australian floods) to man-made global warming.
However increased greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution leads successively to global warming, increased sea temperature, increased evaporation and thence to increased precipitation.
Indeed the incidence of floods has greatly increased throughout the world over (…) -
Climate Emergency Network, La Niña, Climate Change & Queensland flood disaster - stop burning coal & gas
15 January 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia are currently ravaged by floods associated with the latest La Niña climate event. However man-made global warming from greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution has increased sea temperatures and increased the likelihood and severity of such flood disasters. The Climate Emergency Network has issued a statement urging Australia, a world-leading per capita GHG polluter, to stop burning coal and gas.
Queensland, Australia, continues to be ravaged by (…) -
1/1/11 New Year’s Day Message is ONE (1): Unity and Equality for all Humanity on its ONE and only Planet
2 January 2011 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentThe fundamental message on 1/1/11 is indeed 1 (ONE) – 1 man-one-vote, there is only 1 Planet (Spaceship Earth) for Humanity, and equal shares in resources i.e. until we necessarily all cease carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution in 2050 the ratio of my share to your share should be 1.
All decent folk subscribe to the essential egalitarianism of the second sentence of the American Declaration of Independence “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are (…) -

Radically changing 2-Party Australian & Western politics: how Greens can force required climate action
5 December 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
World action on climate change was sabotaged at Copenhagen in 2009 by the US with the help of other world leading per capita polluters, notably Australia. Now we are seeing a re-run of Copenhagen at Cancun. However progressive people in the 2-Major Party Western Lobbyocracies can do something to force requisite strong action on man-made climate change - they can adopt a radical strategy of refusing to support the more progressive but still woefully inadequate major party (Labour in the UK, (…)

Republican victories in US mid-term elections will cripple US & World action on man-made climate change
8 November 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsTop climate scientists argue that the world must reach zero carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution by 2050 and that world leading annual per capita GHG pollution countries like the US and Australia must reduce to zero by 2020. The Republican victories in the mid-term Congressional elections (they now have a majority in the House of Representatives) are widely seen as a huge setback for the Cancun Climate Change Summit (Mexico, 2010) and for any effective US cutback on its enormous greenhouse gas (…)

Hungary is a Failed State. Over. Extinct.
24 October 2010 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsby Bob Nichols STAFF WRITER
(San Francisco) Hungary’s been abused for centuries and survived. Never before have the abusers gone after the most defenseless – the unborn and babies with hammer and tongs.
Hungary is a failed state, pushed to extinction; the men’s sperm killed off and the women’s germ cells fried as the next generation, as yet unborn, is killed in the womb. They never even had a chance.
Radiologically exterminated by pitiful, cowardly “war fighters” like the American (…) -

Welcome back for the third in our current series on the science and politics of global warming. Previously, we discussed how and why global warming occurs, how individuals profit from the energy industry, and why they argue over global warming or “climate change” [ http://tinyurl.com/26cn4gj and http://tinyurl.com/2876bl3, or for more details, (…)
