While certain counties battle with their citizen over the legality of labeling genetically modified foods, and chemically produced and enhanced foods as ‘natural’, other countries are showing us how to work with nature.
The following two part CBC documentary from ‘The Nature of Things’ with David Suzuki examines Cuba’s ‘Accidental Revolution’, where in less then a decade Cuba learned how to grow food that feeds its people using only 5% of the energy that is required in Northern (…)

Ecological Warfare : Iraq’s Environmental Crisis
26 October 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
By JEFFREY ST. CLAIR and JOSHUA FRANK
The ecological effects of war, like its horrific toll on human life, are exponential. When the Bush Administration and their Congressional allies sent our troops in to Iraq to topple Saddam’s regime, they not only ordered these men and women to commit crimes against humanity, they also commanded them to perpetrate crimes against nature.
The first Gulf War had a horrific effect on the environment, as CNN reported in 1999, "Iraq was responsible for (…) -

Bill Clinton’s former vice president Al Gore has won (together with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"
This Nobel Prize will hopefully help to focus time and resources into the battle against Climate Change. But there could be (…) -
It’s insanity, stupid! - Al Gore and that Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize to Al Gore opened a heated debate: was it right to award a mass murderer and war criminal? This is a curious question that certainly would have a meaning in a sane world, certainly not in ours. A few days ago, commenting on this blog about this ordinary episode of folly, I wrote that Al Gore was
“(…) a top war criminal that in a sane world would be hanged or imprisoned for life. But we are not living in a sane world – just in case someone (…) -

Food Guides for the Organically Inclined: Fertilisers Blamed for Frog Deformities
27 September 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
Reports from American scientists are claiming that “run-off from farmland drenched in fertilisers is behind the explosion in amphibians missing legs, or having extra legs and other deformities.” This is the first report to find a correlation between “nutrient enrichment” and severe limb deformities and increased mortality in species within “the aquatic ecosystem”.
If fertilisers are having such a severe effect on amphibians and other species, it would be safe to assume that they will also (…) -

October 13th Give Mother Earth a Rest!
The "Unplug America" campaign was introduced by Indigenous Peoples in 1992 and is an invitation to all people to show our love and respect for our Mother Earth by challenging our country’s unhealthy lifestyle. Here in the U.S. our continued over-consumption of fossil fuels depletes water resources, pollutes the land and air, and causes health problems throughout Turtle Island and the world. Furthermore, it contributes to climate change (…) -
Chip Implants Linked to Animal Tumors
9 September 2007 par (Open-Publishing)
By TODD LEWAN The Associated Press Saturday, September 8, 2007; 2:04 PM
When the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved implanting microchips in humans, the manufacturer said it would save lives, letting doctors scan the tiny transponders to access patients’ medical records almost instantly. The FDA found "reasonable assurance" the device was safe, and a sub-agency even called it one of 2005’s top "innovative technologies."
But neither the company nor the regulators publicly (…) -

Who among us hasn’t been told to clean up our mess? Who among us doesn’t take responsibility for our actions? Who would dump garbage on their neighbors and then just ignore them when they complain? World Capitalist’s that’s who, far from the claims of growth and prosperity promised to us by global free trade we have heard not only the giant sucking sound of disappearing employment but the sound of giants sucking.
In Mexico the town of Tehuacan, blue jean washing (…)
