There is a lesson to be learned here from history, most importantly what has been glossed over and hidden in the teaching of it.
Not only were African-American slaves and women held in bondage, so were white indentured servants, Chinese immigrant laborers on the railways, and numerous other groups of POOR PEOPLE. In fact, many still are held in effective bondage to this very day.
This has always been a case of the wealthy using every possible distinction they can drum up, be it class, (…)

McGreevey’s Confession
1 June 2006 par (Open-Publishing)
by Wayne Besen
In the shadow of Mary Cheney’s apologist memoir, "Now It’s My Turn," comes an apology from former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey in his new book "The Confession." With Mary receiving a mllion dollars for her "tell nothing" and McGreevey receiving a half million for his "tell-all," it has suddenly become quite lucrative to announce one’s homosexuality. Perhaps, next year’s National Coming Out Day should be held in a bank?
Cynicism aside, McGreevey’s book is a tome that (…) -
Thorns In The Rose Garden

The Bush administration is out of gas and nobody can afford it, so the President is priming the pump with the same anti-gay fuel that always runs the GOP’s engine: Same-sex marriage. But will the parlor trick work again for an administration clunking by on fumes?
According to the conservative magazine, The Weekly Standard, Bush will hold a press conference in the Rose Garden on June 5 to reaffirm his support for a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting gay people from (…) -
Political Invisibles

What does it mean when a democracy removes the vote from several million adults? How is the political process affected when certain groups — racial minorities and low-income whites, in particular — bear the brunt of this disenfranchisement?
These are not abstract questions intended to tax the minds of students in a poli-sci class. Rather, they are questions about a massive contraction of the franchise that is occurring, today, largely in the shadows, in the United (…) -
A Progressive Top Five

WASHINGTON — If "American Idol" didn’t completely satisfy your appetite for gimmickry, you might consider turning to National Review. A recent issue offers its handy list of the top 50 conservative rock songs of all time.
The list is intended to be provocative because rock is often considered a focal point of progressive sentiments. What I found far more striking, however, was the relative whiteness of the artists. Exactly when did rock ’n’ roll, once the province of Fats (…) -

Like her father’s misbegotten war in Iraq, Mary Cheney’s book is backfiring. Just as Dick thought the Iraqis would throw flowers at our troops and greet them as liberators, Mary imagined her tome would liberate her from being perceived as a lesbian lackey. But instead of roses, people are roiled and "Now It’s My Turn" makes Mary appear more sycophantic than sympathetic.
Time and again, Mary is confronted with opportunities to educate America and voice her opposition to (…) -

By DEBRA SCHAFFER HUBERT
"I would execute gays only if we catch them indulging in sodomy," Gary DeMar, popular Christian evangelical minister is quoted in the December, 2005 issue of Mother Jones. DeMar, who casually condemns millions, envisions sinners in line for the death penalty. [1]

XENOPHOBIA: America’s Flip-Flop

3 commentsAmericans are among the most oprobrious xenophobes on the planet, but the dichotomy is really odd to say the least.
CUBA: We call Castro a "butcher" but love his cigars.
RUSSIA: Cheney insults them, U.S.citizens still think they’re all "Commies", but Bush has looked into Putin’s eyes and sees a fine soul.
CHINA: We hate them for their odd eating and religious habits, abhor their military buildup, but love their food and can’t wait to build more factories on their soil.

Racist UK-US democratic tyranny, "free market", "drug patent rights" & African HIV/AIDS catastrophe

6 commentsOf course, unlike the situation in the 19th century, the democratic West is now politically correct (PC) and eschews explicit racism. Kurtz’s assertion of "exterminate all the brutes" in Joseph Conrad’s African novel "Heart of Darkness" was acceptable back in circa 1900 when it was first published in an explicitly racist Britain. Western intellectuals armed with Darwin’s "Origin of Species" justified racist colonial impositions in terms of "survival of the fittest" (i.e. those with guns). (…)
