IN HIS INITIAL reaction yesterday to the London transit bombings, President Bush decried ’’people killing innocent people." He said: ’’The contrast couldn’t be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty and those who kill — those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks."
This came a week and a half after Bush invoked the innocent in his Fort Bragg, N.C., speech in an attempt (…)

Rhetoric vs. Reality in London
9 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsI’ve had the pleasure of visiting London on several occasions. I’ve ridden the subways and walked the streets where Thursday’s awful terrorist attacks occurred. I have nothing but sympathy for the innocent people who were slaughtered, and nothing but contempt for the perpetrators of these crimes. According to pro-war bloggers like Jeff Jarvis, however, people like me belong to the "bomb-us-please crowd."
This sort of dishonest rhetoric, sprinkled with name-calling, seems to be the best (…) -
False Flag over London
9 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsIt was 2001 all over again: a year into his term, Bush and his poll ratings had sunk to historical lows, even further this time under the weight of scandals and rumblings of impeachment. Blair too was hurt badly by the Downing Street memo. Then out of the blue, salvation struck the pair. Yesterday, 7/7, saw the classic false-flag attack hit London, a simple set-up by western secret services to distract from the deepening woes of Bush and Blair, and perhaps to create the pretext for the next (…)

Who’s Watching the Watch List?

2 commentsMy name is on a list of real and suspected enemies of the state and I can’t find out what I’m accused of or why, let alone defend myself.
Heading for Oakland from Seattle to see my grandkids last week, the Alaska Airlines check-in machine refused to give me a boarding pass. Directed to the ticket counter, I gave the agent my driver’s license and watched her punch keys at her computer.
Frowning, she told me that my name was on the national terrorist No Fly Watch List and that I had to be (…) -

Toll From London Bombing Raised Above 50

Associated Press Writer
LONDON (AP) - Police on Friday raised the death toll to 50 from London’s terrorist bombings but said they hadn’t yet been able to reach all of the dead. Commuters reluctantly returned to the Underground, but buses and subways carried fewer riders than normal in the aftermath of four rush-hour blasts.
Sir Ian Blair, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said no evidence suggested that the attacks involved suicide bombers but that officials (…) -

by Robert Fisk
If we are fighting insurgency in Iraq, what makes us think insurgency won’t come to us?
"If you bomb our cities," Osama bin Laden said in one of his recent video tapes, "we will bomb yours." There you go, as they say. It was crystal clear Britain would be a target ever since Tony Blair decided to join George Bush’s "war on terror" and his invasion of Iraq. We had, as they say, been warned. The G8 summit was obviously chosen, well in (…) -
London Explodes, Washington tenses further
8 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentThe crisis that now has Western cities becoming police states — New York, Madrid, London, Washington not only already having experienced mass casualities but constantly on guard and constantly expending great resources to try to prevent further attacks — has deep causes that have been brewing for years. At the top of the list so much political and ideological poison has oozed out of the Arab-Israeli conflict for decades now. The harsh military occupation of the Palestinians, the many (…)

The Secret Organization of al-Qaeda in Europe: A load of Hooey
8 July 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
15 commentsFive minutes tuned into CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and the entire panoply of the corporate media propaganda machine reveals a common thread in regard to the London bombings-once again, in knee-jerk fashion, an exaggerated al-Qaeda is to blame, minus any evidence whatsoever beyond an absurd claim of responsibility by something calling itself “The Secret Organization of al-Qaeda in Europe,” a preposterous and unwieldy appellation if ever there was one. Even the unanimity of the corporate media (…)
